Mace had made good on his promise to keep Steel in the loop. His cop friend had found the address of the apartment that the doctor had given him. The problem was that when they got there, they found no sign of Devin or Justice. The place didnât even look lived in and the superintendent who had let them in to search the apartment said that he hadnât seen anyone go in or out of the place in months.
âWeâre close,â Steel said, looking around. âI can feel that weâre close.â He pulled up a picture on his phone of Devinâs mug shot and showed it to the super. âHave you seen this guy?â
He looked the phone over and shook his head. âNo,â the guy said. Steel scrolled to a photo of Justice and showed it to him.
âHow about her?â he asked.
The manâs eyes about bugged out of his head and he nodded. âYeah, Iâve seen her. She and her fiancée live in the next building. This unit is 142C and they are in 124C. They seem like a nice couple, but I really donât see much of them. They are quiet and keep to themselves. Honestlyâthatâs my favorite kind of tenant.â
âThe doctor must have gotten the numbers backward. Iâll let the cops know to meet us over at the next building,â Mace said. He stepped into the hallway and Steel could hear him talking on the phone.
âI need to get over there,â he whispered more to himself than his brothers.
âWe promised Mace to hold off and wait for the cops. They are right downstairs and pretty pissed off that we didnât hold to our promise and barged in here.â When they got to the apartment complex, Steel couldnât wait for Maceâs cop friend to show up and he charged into the place like the fucking Calvary. Steel had a feeling that the guys wouldnât let him do that again, not that heâd let that stop him.
âI donât care about some damn promise to a cop. Iâm going over there and getting Justice away from that asshole,â Steel growled.
âYou know that heâs armed,â Owen warned. It wasnât something that heâd easily forget. He watched as Devin held a gun to her and eventually, pointed at him. Itâs the only reason he let Devin take her out of the bar. Otherwise, he would have torn the guy apart with his bare hands for even thinking about laying a finger on Justice. She belonged to him now, and that fucker was going to pay for what he did to her.
âWeâre all armed too,â Maverick said. âIâm with Steelâwe donât wait for the cops. The element of surprise is on our side, and we need to use it. If the cops arenât ready to go in with us, we go in alone.â Steellooked over to find Owen nodding his agreement and he let out a breath that he didnât know that he had been holding.
âThanks for having my back, guys,â Steel said. âReady?â His brothers followed him out of the apartment, giving him their silent answer.
